Section 11 at the 1841
Last year my friend invited me to tag along to shoot a gig for their friend’s child’s band. It was quite the fun evening of good music by Section 11 at the 1841 Bar and Restaurant.
Of course, I expected it to be a low light environment, so I took the trusty Sigma 56mm f/1.4 to keep the ISO within acceptable range. Unsurprisingly the Sigma provided great opportunities for crisp portrait photos of the band.
I thought the lights behind the band would make it difficult to shoot, but actually I rather like the results!
I also took the Panasonic 9mm f/1.7 for getting the whole band in shot at closer distances. The venue was a bit cramped with the tables full, so I had to make do with being either being right up front or further back with the Sigma. The Panasonic handled the assignment well enough.
I did take the Olympus 40-150mm as a back-up for shooting from inconvenient spots. I was worried that the relative slowness of the 40-150mm might ruin the shots but I need not have worried!.
Overall I think I could have actually lowered the exposure a bit across the board, though I don’t think the lights were strong enough if they dimmed the house lights further. Ah well, something to try out in the future! For now here’s a few more photos below, and as always - thanks for your time!
