Are we out of the woods yet

So Flatmate and I went for a walk at Mākara one afternoon. The walk started out fine weather-wise. It did not start out fine cardio-wise. I didn’t know how hard the walk was going to be so I went with a single-lens challenge with the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8.

It was a steep half hour of non-stop uphill climbing - I was surprised I didn’t die (I hadn’t been as active recently as before). The weather turned pretty quickly though. We hadn’t even made it to the top when the afternoon deteriorated to a dark grey.

No matter what I did, every photo was pretty flat with the poor lighting. So naturally I looked at shooting in black and white (fine by me!) There were quite a lot of windmills up on the hills but I didn’t come up with a good composition for any of them. We came across a bunker, however, and it turned out okay except I would have liked it to have been wider.

But of course we try and take pictures no matter how ‘mundane’ the subject is. It doesn’t matter if the photo doesn’t turn out great, it is an exercise of creativity after all!

Eventually we came upon a clearing which seemed like the perfect spot to stop for sustenance.

When it comes to snacks, we bring what we wanna eat regardless of weight. Tasty food is worth the grind.

Eventually it was time to head back. Luckily the track was a loop which meant it was all downhill back to the start.

We did come across some animals on the way down.

By the end, the weather was starting to get better but it was too late (and tired) to do anything else.

I didn’t get as many photos that I like, but the process was just as enjoyable. The walk wasn’t too shabby either after the initial challenge!

Of course, today’s earworm is Out of the Woods by Tay-tay.
